Frequently Asked Questions
What is the adoption fee for cats and kittens?
Our adoption fee is $75 per cat or kitten. Our adoption fee is NONREFUNDABLE.
What does the adoption fee cover?
Every HART cat or kitten is spayed/neutered, receives age appropriate vaccines (rabies and FVRCP), receives flea treatment, deworming and is microchipped.
What if my newly adopted cat/kitten is sick after I bring it home?
HART does our best to ensure all cats/kittens are healthy before being adopted. Cats and kittens at the adoption center in Petsense are often touched and handled by members of the public and could possibly spread an illness to our cats. We recommend taking your newly adopted cat/kitten to your veterinarian to establish a relationship and base line of health. HART cannot continue to pay for veterinarian care of our adopted animals. It is your sole responsibility as a cat guardian to ensure your cat is kept happy and healthy.
My new cat fights with my current animals. How long will it take them to adjust?
Proper introduction is key to ensure all animals in the home are given the appropriate amount of time to adjust to their new surroundings. Just like people, each cat/kitten is different with a different personality. Below are a few tips and tricks to ensuring a smooth transition to a new home.
What is the process for returning a cat? Things aren't working out and I need to return the cat.
As stated in our adoption contract, you must return the cat to the care of HART, not a third party or surrendered to a shelter. We always take our cats back at any stage in their life. The original medical paperwork is the ONLY copy and MUST be returned with the cat. You can contact us via email hartrescuetn@gmail.com to arrange the return of the cat. Just a reminder that our adoption fee is NONREFUNDABLE.

Proper introduction is key to ensure all animals in the home are given the appropriate amount of time to adjust to their new surroundings. Just like people, each cat/kitten is different with a different personality. Below are a few tips and tricks to ensuring a smooth transition to a new home.
- SET UP A SAFE ZONE. Choose a quiet room and equip it with a litter box, toys, scratching post, bed, hiding spot, food and water. This will serve as your cat’s safe zone while they acclimate to the smells and sounds of your household.
- TAKE IT SLOW. Once they’re comfortable, start leaving the door open, allowing them to explore the rest of the house, and slowly introduce them to other pets and household members. If your new cat needs more time, use a baby gate to let them see other pets without having to interact.
- KEEP IT LOW-KEY. During the acclimation period, allow your cat to choose how much attention they want with you and other members of your household. Forcing your cat to be held or petted will not comfort them and may create unwanted behaviors.
